The Albany Sykway connection would enable access to the nationally significant Erie Canalway Trail, emerging residential and commercial development on the Rensselaer and Albany sides of the River at DeLaet’s Landing and the Warehouse District, and be a true majestic gateway to the Hudson. It would also connect the City of Albany to the proposed Rensselaer Waterfront Trail and the Empire Trail designated Albany Electric Trail being constructed in Rensselaer and Schodack. Until the Skyway proposal, the western approach to the LAB was mystifying – but now the Skyway could be a bona-fide red carpet to pedestrian access across the rebuilt or rehabbed Livingston Ave. Bridge. It would turn a seldom-used ramp into a proverbial red carpet into Albany that has serious regional and statewide magnetism. This is why we’re so excited about plans to build this unique attraction.
